Updated Dataset Available: EPD with SNOMED CT Codes on the Open Data Portal

May 22, 2025

The English Prescribing Dataset (EPD) is now available in an updated format, incorporating Systematised Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) codes, on the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) Open Data Portal.

We will continue to publish both the current EPD and the EPD with SNOMED CT codes datasets for a three-month period following the first publication date. After this period, the EPD with SNOMED CT codes will become the sole published dataset, and the original EPD (without SNOMED CT codes) will be discontinued.

The latest dataset contains:

  • practice-level information
  • British National Formulary (BNF) and SNOMED CT codes to precisely identify prescribed items
  • prescription costs
  • quantities of items prescribed and dispensed

  • For more information on the EPD with SNOMED CT Codes dataset, please visit our website.
