Please can you advise me; if I am registered as an NHS patient at a dental surgery but not receiving any treatment or check ups (they have refused to see me for none emergencies due to their work load since 2020) do they recently any payment from any area of the NHS or Government?

Response

Dentists do not get paid for having a patient list (unlike GP practices). They are awarded a Financial Value and Performance target based on what they are expected to achieve over a financial year and aim to deliver that accordingly. The targets are based on negotiations with their local area team (now known as an Integrated Care Board). The dental surgery will triage their patients based on needs - but this is a local decision.

Additionally, there is no formal registration of dental patients in the dental regulations/contract; unlike GP patients, dental patients are not registered to a particular practice or confined to a practice boundary.
