Thank you for your request for information about the following:
Request
‘I wish you to supply the following latest information regarding the McCloud remedy. Of those NHS members currently in retirement and in receipt of an NHS pension:
1. How many members will you be required to issue a Remedial Saving Statement (RSS)?
2. Of this total how many have been issued with their Remedial Saving Statement (RSS)?
3. How many of these members have returned their Remedial Saving Statement (RSS)?
4. Of the members of that have returned their Remedial Savings Statement (RSS) how many have been actioned and completed by NHS Pensions? By actioned I mean all adjustments to monthly pension payments and lump sum payments are completed.
Early last summer (8 months ago!!!) NHS pensions removed the timetable for actioning the McCloud remedy from its website. The website now says We will provide regular updates to Scheme members as soon as updated timelines are confirmed. We will also publish a revised McCloud delivery timetable on our website.
5. What is the latest time scale for the revised timetable to be published?’
The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 9 April 2026.
We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
Our response
I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested.
Data provided is as of 20 April 2026.
Question 1 - How many members will you be required to issue a Remedial Saving Statement (RSS)?
415,154
Question 2 - Of this total how many have been issued with their Remedial Saving Statement (RSS)?
7,226
Question 3 - How many of these members have returned their Remedial Saving Statement (RSS)?
5,409
Question 4 - Of the members of that have returned their Remedial Savings Statement (RSS) how many have been actioned and completed by NHS Pensions? By actioned I mean all adjustments to monthly pension payments and lump sum payments are completed
5,244
Question 5 - What is the latest time scale for the revised timetable to be published?
I am writing to advise you that the information you requested is not currently held by the NHSBSA. The revised timetable is still to be confirmed by the DHSC, and it will be published in due course.
Technical complexities extending beyond the NHS Pension Scheme have affected delivery timelines for RSS. NHSBSA continues to do everything possible to issue RSS as quickly as possible to all affected members.
The new timelines for RSS delivery will continue to prioritise statements for those most likely to be at detriment as a result of McCloud.
A revised McCloud delivery timetable will be published on the NHSBSA website as soon as it is available and regular updates will be provided to Scheme members.
