| CALENDAR_YEAR | Calendar Year | number | Indicates the relevant calendar year for each row of data. |
| GENDER | Gender | string | Patient gender has been reported using the latest patient gender information held by the NHSBSA Information Services data warehouse at the time that the data was extracted. This uses information from either the most recent Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) message or from the last time that NHSBSA received data about the patient's gender from NHS Personal Demographics Service. Gender is either: Male, Female, Not Known (where no information is held) or Indeterminate (where information is held which does not confirm either Male or Female). For this FOI, Male and Female patients have been included. |
| AGE_BAND | Age Band | string | Indicates the age band for identifiable patients. If a patient's age has not been able to be verified, the age band will be indicated as unknown. |
| PATIENT_COUNT | Total Patient Count | number | A total count of patients, whether identified or unidentified by means of recording an NHS Number during prescription processing. |
| PATIENT_IDENTIFIED | Patient Identified Flag | string | A Y/N field which describes whether the patient's NHS number could be read from the prescription form or EPS message. "Y" indicates that the NHS number was read and the patient identified and "N" indicates that it wasn't. |

| NIC_GBP | Net Ingredient Cost (NIC (£)) | number | Net Ingredient cost (NIC) is the basic price of a drug as stated in Part II Clause 8 of the Drug Tariff but please note that where a price concession for items listed in Part VIII of the Drug Tariff has been agreed between the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee the NIC will reflect the concession price rather than the Drug Tariff price. NIC is given in Pounds Sterling. |
