Request
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The purpose of this request is to gather data on the use of GLP-1 agonists and other diabetes and weight loss medications prescribed across the prison population.
If NHSBSA does not hold data specifically relating to prescriptions dispensed within prisons, please confirm whether this data is instead held by NHS England’s Health & Justice team or any other NHS body, and redirect this request accordingly
I am seeking anonymised, aggregate information covering the period January 2020 to October 2025.
1. The total number of prescriptions dispensed via the NHS across the prison population for the following medications, broken down by year: Victoza (Liraglutide), Ozempic (Semaglutide), Rybelsus (Semaglutide), Trulicity (Dulaglutide), Bydureon (Exenatide), and Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)
2. The total number of prescriptions dispensed via the NHS across the prison population for the following medications, broken down by year: Saxenda (Liraglutide), Wegovy (Semaglutide), Orlistat (Xenical / Alli) and Mysimba (Naltrexone / Bupropion)
Response
I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that information about medicines dispensed in prisons is not held by the NHSBSA.
