Thank you for your request for information about the following:
Request
1. How many Remediable Pension Savings Statements (RPSSs) have been sent as of 1st June?
2. How many RPSSs have yet to be sent as of 1st June?
3. How many applications have been received by the cost claim-back scheme to cover the cost of professional support as of 1st June?
4. Of these applications, how many have been accepted as of 1st June?
The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 9 June 2025.
We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
Our response
Question 1 – How many Remediable Pension Savings Statements (RPSSs) have been sent as of 1st June?
206,010 RPSS have been sent as of 2 June 2025
Question 2 – How many RPSSs have yet to be sent as of 1st June?
I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHSBSA. This is because this data is still being collated. Until various calculations have been carried out, it is impossible to know whether an RPSS will be required.
For further information, an RPSS is only required to be issued if the member will/have exceeded the Annual Allowance limit for one (or more) of the years within the McCloud Remedy Period. If the Annual Allowance limit has not been exceeded, then an RPSS is not required to be sent.
Question 3 - How many applications have been received by the cost claim-back scheme to cover the cost of professional support as of 1st June?
Please be advised we have interpreted questions 3 and 4 of your request to relate to RPSS.
The NHSBSA does hold the requested information; however, we estimate that the cost of compliance with the request would exceed the appropriate limit under section 12 of the FOIA.
We estimate that the cost of complying with your request would exceed the non-central Government limit of £450. The limit has been specified in The Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004 and represents the estimated cost of one person spending 18 hours in determining whether the NHSBSA holds the information, and locating, retrieving, extracting and checking the information.
Claims are not just for support in relation to RPSS. Cost claim back relates to all contingent decisions affected by the Public Service Pensions Remedy, so this could therefore be for a number of reasons, not just RPSS - The NHS Cost Claim Back Scheme | NHSBSA.
As all cost claim back payments made to NHS Pensions are for professional support, we cannot identify whether a claim relates to RPSS without the manual interrogation of each claim.
Please see the following calculations which set out the estimated cost for compliance with this request:
5,038 applications have been received since January 2024 when we start issuing RPSS. Additionally, not all of the 5,038 applications are in relation to the support of RPSS. We are therefore unable to break down these figures into categories of what the claim is for as this is not held.
Question 4 – Of these applications, how many have been accepted as of 1st June?
3,904 claims have been accepted as of 1 June 2025.
