‘Between 1st January 2024 and 31st December 2024, the NHS approved 22 claims for pre-planned treatment in Switzerland under the S2/E112 route.

In relation to these claims, please provide the following informatoin under the Freedom of Information Act.

Q1) How many of the claims were made under the S2 route and how many were made under the E112 route?

Q2) Please provide a list of each treatment that was provided/what ailment was being treated and each indiviudal claim cost.

Q3) Please provide a full list of the medical centres in Switzerland that provided the treatments.

Q4) Switzerland does not have a universal healthcare system and all of its citizens are required to have private health insurance and this is used for treatment in private centres/private hospitals. As this system is different to the UK's unviersal healthcare system, please explain the criteria for NHS-funded treatment in private clinics in Switzerland under S2 and whether all clinics in Switzerland are able to be used by successful S2 applicants?

Q5) Please confirm whether or not procedure cost must be agreed in advance of a successful S2 claim or whether this is dealt with retrospectively?’

This information is not held. The NHSBSA is not involved in the process of determining the criteria for NHS-funded treatment in private clinics in Switzerland under the S2 entitlement.

Question 5

No. There is an estimated cost of a procedure prior to the treatment, however, the actual cost of the claim is not determined until the Member State submits the claim.
