Thank you for your request for information about the following:

Request

‘This is a new FOI request that follows on from another FOI request FOI-02565 (https://opendata.nhsbsa.net/dataset/foi-02565), which I have received a response to and your response is referenced below.

Q1) Between 1st January 2024 and 31st December 2024, according to your response there were 727 claims make to you under S2/E112 resulting in an amount of £5,048,843.29 accepted by the NHS. Can you please provide a list of the conditions/ailments that patients were treated for within this cohort and how many patients were treated for each condition.

Q2) In your response to FOI-02565 you provided figures (In Q8) for the top ten largest claims received by the NHS under S2. Can you please now advise which of these top ten largest claims were accepted by the NHS, what condition was treated and which country provided the treatment.

Q3) In your response to FOI-02565 you provided figures (In Q8) for the top ten largest claims received by the NHS under EHIC/GHIC. Can you please now advise which of these top ten largest claims were accepted by the NHS, what condition was treated and which country provided the treatment.

Q4) Does the NHS currently have a list of medical conditions which it will allow treatment abroad under S2 for? If so, please supply a copy and advise how often it is reviewed.’

Our response

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds some of the information you have requested, and a copy of the information is attached.

Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.

Question 1 and 2

I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHSBSA. The NHSBSA does not hold the reason for a treatment.

Question 2

Please note, the figures provided in FOI-02565 for S2s were incorrect. This was due to an administrative error. We have attached the correct figures and updated the data for FOI-02565 on the Open Data portal.

Question 3

A copy of the data is attached.

Please be advised, that as per our response to question 1 and 2 above, the NHSBSA does not hold the reason for treatment, so this cannot be provided.

Question 4

I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHSBSA.

Only S2s for maternity care are approved by the NHSBSA. S2s for planned treatment are determined and approved by NHS England. You may therefore wish to redirect your request directly to NHS England. They can be contacted at:
