I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from NHS Business Services Authority:

1a) How many Planned Treatment S2 claims were paid for each calendar year: 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023; 2024?

1b) How much money (£GBP) was claimed for against Planned Treatment S2 entitlements for each calendar year: 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023; 2024?

2a) How many Maternity S2 claims were paid for each calendar year: 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023; 2024?

2b) How much money (£GBP) was claimed for against Maternity S2 entitlements for each calendar year: 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023; 2024?

NOTE: For both Qs above, please may you also breakdown the number of claims by each country; and how much money was paid to each country?

On the 29 January 2025 you clarified the following:

For question 1a, please may you provide the number of claims that were approved for payment?

And the same for 1b, the amount approved for payment by the EU and EFTA countries and Switzerland for the years requested.

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested and a copy of the is attached.

Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.

These caveats apply to all questions in this FOI unless specified.

• Treatments are included in the year that the S2 was validated by NHSBSA

• The amounts were approved for payment in local currencies. For your convenience we have converted to £GBP based on an exchange rate when the country was paid.

• For approximately 6% of S2 claims there was insufficient information to allocate them against Maternity or Planned Treatment. These have been included as unallocated in the relevant questions.

• For the breakdown of S2 treatments by country, countries are only included if there was an S2 processed for that country.
