Thank you for your request for information about the following:
Request
‘One of the changes brought in in October 2022 was to base member contribution rates on actual pensionable pay rather than whole-time equivalent pay.
This is a move that would have benefitted all part time staff.
Please could you provide me with a split of members by gender that were in the pension scheme for some or all of the ten years preceeding this change that worked on a part time basis.’
The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 26 September 2024.
We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.
Our response
I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested and a copy of the information is attached.
Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.
The attached table shows the volumes of members, split by sex, who had at least one period of part-time membership between 1 October 2012 and 31 September 2022.
The pensions database is live, and subject to change retrospectively as records are amended.
Members may have multiple, concurrent part-time posts, or posts which change from full-time to part-time. For the purposes of this FOI, any member with at least one pensionable day of part-time membership is included and counted only once.
Members may have since claimed their pension, transferred benefits out of the pension scheme, claimed a full refund of contributions and/or may have since died.
