The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 16 September 2024.

We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

Our response

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested, and a copy of the information is attached.

Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.

All data is as of 26 September 2024.

Questions (a) and (b)

A copy of the information is attached.

This information is correct as of 26 September 2024.

Since this request was last responded to in November 2023, the data has undergone several structural changes in preparation for the calculations required as a result of the Public Service Pension Remedy, sometimes known as McCloud (specifically data being ‘rolled back’ into the previous NHS Pension Scheme). The data used for this FOI is pre-rolled back data, when members were in the 2015 Scheme.

As part of these changes, significant validation checks have taken place to identify incomplete Annual Allowance (AA) records and remove them so that the data can be recalculated and entered onto member records. This means that the overall volume of members showing to have exceeded the annual allowance, is less than previously reported in November 2023. The volume will increase as calculations continue.

Question (d)

There are 18,815 active practitioners who have at least one employment not updated to 31 March 2022.
