Please provide the following data regarding the nhs pension scheme in relation to medical consultants retiring from the NHS, for the twelve months up to 3rd July 2024: - Average AND median time to award - Number of retiring consultants waiting longer than 60 calendar days for award payment.

Emailed response is sufficient within the time frame but also please post a hard copy to me

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested. We have issued the response via e-mail as per your wishes. FOI entitles you to a copy of the requested information, please print this out should you need a hard copy. If you do not have access to a printer, you may be able to use facilities at your local public library.

The table below details the volume of awards completed in the respective period. The calendar days are measured by the number of days which elapsed between
• the latest of the payable date of the benefits, or the date NHS Pensions received all relevant information to be able to process the case • the completion date of the case.

The data includes all members who have retired in the period, who had some GP service; they may not have retired directly from a GP employment as they may have been actively employed in a non-GP role or may have retired from deferment.

The completion date of the award payment is not synonymous with the date the payment was received in the members bank, it is reflective of the date the case was completed and issued to be paid.

In the event that the award case was completed prior to the payable date, the case is considered to have been completed within 1 day. As award applications can be received and completed up to three months prior to the payable date, payment won’t occur until it is due on or after the payable date. (see attached data)
