Request

You asked us:

‘I would like to know how many people have received money and approximately how much compensation for compensation in the Covid Scheme’

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 8 August 2024.

We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

Our response

All data is as of 19 August 2024. All data relates to claims received by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) and those transferred from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on 1 November 2021.

All data relates to COVID-19 vaccines.

About the scheme

The Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) is not a compensation scheme. Claimants can still seek damages in court.

The VDPS provides a one-off tax-free payment, which is currently £120,000, to successful applicants where, on very rare occasions, a vaccine has caused severe disablement. A list of eligible vaccines is available at: www.gov.uk/vaccine-damage-payment/eligibility.

‘I would like to know how many people have received money’

As of 19 August 2024, 180 claimants have received a Vaccine Damage Payment.

A Vaccine Damage Payment is not compensation. It is a one-off tax-free payment of £120,000.

Based on the 180 claimants who have received their payment of £120,000 each, £21,600,000 has been paid.
