Thank you for your request for information about the following:
Request
‘I would like to ask for this chart, which was provided under the Freedom of Information Act last year, to be updated with figures for 2024.
To clarify, I would like to ask how many members of the NHS pension will receive annualised payments between £33,000 and £50,000, between £50,000 and £100,000 and of more than £100,000.
I would also like to ask if any members of the scheme will receive payments of more than £150,000, and if so, how many. I am happy to accept this data anonymously.’
The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 9 August 2024.
We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.
Our response
I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested, and a copy of the information is attached.
Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.
The data reflects only those members in receipt of benefits of 15 August 2024, it does not reflect all the benefits in payment in the respective year, as some of those benefits may have since ceased.
Not all members in receipt of benefits as of 15 August 2024 will have been in receipt of benefits in previous years.
All those with an annual rate under £33,000 are omitted from the provided data.
The pension rate is based on what the rate in payment was for each member at the respective scheme year end (31 March). It does not necessarily mean the member received that amount of money for the previous 12 months or went on to receive it for the following 12 months, as rates can change throughout the year.
This data can’t be used in conjunction with the data provided last year to show comparisons because the pool of members will be different each time the data is gathered.

A copy of the data is attached.
