Our response

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds some of the information you have requested and a copy of the information and notes explaining it is attached.

This report contains the details from General FP17s processed for the period 2017/2018-2023/2024 in English & Welsh Regions. Contracts paid by NHSBSA. Includes Foundation Dentists. The information within the report includes the data items and descriptions listed below.

Reporting Year: The financial year which the activity relate to. Year-end methodology will include all activity data (including amendments) collected from FP17s scheduled in any of the fifteen schedule months from April to June, where the date of completion is on or between 1 April and 31 March of the year. For example 2019-20 will include all activity data (including amendments) collected from FP17s scheduled in any of the fifteen schedule months from April 2019 to June 2020, where the date of completion is on or between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020. Where FP17s do not have a date of completion, e.g. where the patient has failed to return to complete the treatment, the date of acceptance is used.

Country Name: The country name where the contract is located.

Region Description: This is the name associated with the Region.

Total FP17s : This is a count of the number of FP17s and FP17Os scheduled including adjustments for amended and deleted FP17s. Withdrawn FP17s are not included in the total count of FP17s. This figure may be zero or negative if deleted FP17s have been processed.

Unique Patient Count: This is a count of the unique patient identities on forms scheduled. A patient may have attended more than once in the time period and received different treatment, so the total figure has been adjusted for duplicate patient IDs. Patient identities are counted for all valid FP17 transactions – including amendment, deletion and withdrawn records. Therefore, it is possible for the count of patient identities to be greater than the count of FP17s. The distinct patient count uses the Patient Unique Identifier.

Dentures Patient Count : This is the Unique Patient Count of Treatment Charge Band that has a Denture (any type) Flag set to Yes.

Crown of Bridge Patient Count : This is the Unique Patient Count of Treatment Charge Band that has a Crown or Bridge Flag set to Yes.

Endodontic Patient Count : This is the Unique Patient Count of Treatment Charge Band that has an Endodontic Flag set to Yes.

Band 1-3 Patient Count : This is the Unique Patient Count of Treatment Charge Band that has a Band 1, 2 or 3 Flag set to Yes.

Treatment Charge Band : The patient charge band associated with a course of treatment as stated in Part 5 Treatment Category of the FP17.

FP17s With Extractions : This is a count of the number of forms submitted where the extractions box has been ticked on a general FP17.

Dual Fixed Appliances Starts (Fixed Braces) : This is a count of the number of forms submitted where the Orthodontic Assess Accept Flag box has been ticked on an Orthodontic FP17 and Fixed Upper & Lower Appliance Flags have been Flagged as 'Yes'.

Note : Due to Data Retention policy, we only hold records back to 2017/2018, nor do we capture data on tooth extractions related to wisdom teeth and therefore this information is not held by the NHBSA.
