Request
I would like to know how many deferred members with final salary pension scheme benefits (ie members who are no longer working for NHS Pension Scheme participating employers - not just members who have moved to a CARE scheme) are older than the normal pension age in the relevant final salary section of the scheme but have not put their final salary pension into payment yet.
On 8 August 2024 you clarified the following:
To Q1 – I would like option “a” (ie “any deferred member in the 1995 and 2008 scheme with no 2015 scheme membership”).
To Q2 – For members with benefits in both 1995 and 2008 to use an NPA of 65.
Response
I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested.
93,145 deferred members of the 1995/2008 scheme (and do not have any 2015 service) are over their Normal Pension Age.
Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.
In the event a member has both 1995 and 2008 service, a normal pension age of 65 has been used.
The NHSBSA has an automated process, in which members are contacted when they are approaching their normal pension age to inform them that they may be able to claim their NHS Pension Scheme benefits.
