Request
1) Do the NHSBSA have a specific written policy for safeguarding VDPS claimants during the application process? Please provide a copy of the policy.
2) How many claimants have had a safeguarding report made by a claims handler?
3) Do VDPS claims handlers receive appropriate safeguarding training in order to identify safeguarding issues and act where appropriate?
Response
Question 1
We have a Safeguarding Policy that sets out information about the NHSBSA’s commitment as an organisation to safeguarding customers and colleagues. A copy of this policy is attached.
Question 2
The Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) team has raised 17 safeguarding reports in relation to claimants.
These reports were made to our Colleague Experience and Social Impact team (previously Wellbeing and Inclusion team).
Question 3
Colleagues must complete a safeguarding e-learning module when they join the NHSBSA and every two years thereafter. This is mandatory for all colleagues, including those working on the VDPS. The e-learning covers:
• information about safeguarding
• types of abuse and neglect
• case study examples
In addition to the safeguarding e-learning module, VDPS colleagues are offered additional support, coaching and training in identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns.
