Request

Under the freedom of Information Act (2000) I am requesting the following information:

The total number of members of the NHS Pension scheme who opted to move their accrued pension benefits from the 1995 section to the 2008 section during the original Pension Choice exercise that took place between 2009 and 2012.

This request does not relate to the later Pension “Choice 2” exercise which took place between 2014 to 2015.

Response

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested.

Our records show that 179,426 members opted to move their accrued 1995 benefits into the 2008 section as part of the first choice exercise.

Members who made the choice as part of the ‘Choice 2’ exercise are excluded from this figure.
