Thank you for your request for information about the following:

‘I would like to know the number of claims due to the Covid vaccination and the number of claims that have been both put through to independent medical assessor, and how many of those have been compensated and for how much ( average)’

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 6 June 2024.

We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

Our response

All data is as of 7 June 2024. All data relates to claims received by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) and those transferred from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on 1 November 2021. All figures provided relate to COVID-19 vaccine claims.

13,506 COVID claims have been received by the VDPS.

7,585 claims have been shared with an independent medical assessor.

176 claimants have been notified that they are entitled to a Vaccine Damage Payment.

Please note, the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) provides a one-off tax-free payment, currently a set amount of £120,000, to successful applicants where, on very rare occasions, a vaccine has caused severe disablement. The VDPS is not a compensation scheme. A claimant could still seek damages in court.
