Thank you for your request for information about the following:

Request

You asked us:

‘I would be grateful if you could provide me with the following information for the financial year 2023 – 2024 as held at 30 April 2024 (references to year mean financial year). I appreciate that these are not the final figures for the financial year due to the 'two-month rule' whereby dentists have 62 days after the date of completion or last visit in which to submit their FP17s.

For all NHS dental contracts in England: Commissioner code, Commissioner name, Provider name, Contract Number, Practice Postcode, Contract Type (GDS or PDS), Contracted general activity (UDA) 2023 – 2024 year, Annual contract value, Contract activity (UDA) scheduled to 20 April 2024, number of unique patients seen 2023 – 2024 year’

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on 1 May 2024.

We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

Our response

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested and a copy of the information and notes explaining it is attached.

Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.

This report contains the details from FP17s processed for the period stated 2023/2024 (202304-202404) in England. Report only includes contracts with a UDA performance target of 1+ or a UDA financial value of 1+. Excludes Foundation Dentists. All contracts paid by NHSBSA. The information within the report includes the data items and descriptions listed below.

Reporting Year: The financial year which the activity relate to. Year-end methodology will include all activity data (including amendments) collected from FP17s scheduled in any of the fifteen schedule months from April to June, where the date of completion is on or between 1 April and 31 March of the year. For example 2023/2024 will include all activity data (including amendments) collected from FP17s scheduled in any of the fifteen schedule months from April 2023 to June 2024, where the date of completion is on or between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024. Where FP17s do not have a date of completion, e.g. where the patient has failed to return to complete the treatment, the date of acceptance is used.

Commissioner Code: This is the 3 character code associated with the Commissioning Organisation. This a generic term used to denote health bodies, either Area Teams in England or Health Boards in Wales. Also known as Primary Care Organisations (PCOs)

Commissioner Name: This is the name associated with the Commissioning Organisation. This is a generic term used to denote health bodies, either Area Teams in England or Health Boards in Wales. Also known as Primary Care Organisations (PCOs))

Contract Number: This is a unique 10 character number which identifies a contract.

Provider Name: The name of the provider

Contract Type: The latest contract type associated with the contract.

Principal Practice Address - Postcode: This is the Postcode of the main address used for correspondence between the NHSBSA and the dental contract, it is not necessarily the address where treatment takes place.

UDA Performance Target: The contracted units of dental activity to be achieved for the year, as entered on CoMPASS by the PCO.

UDA Financial Value: The financial value associated with the UDA performance target for the financial year, as entered on CoMPASS by the PCO.

UDA Delivered: The units of dental activity scheduled for the financial year to date for the period selected, relating to the financial year e.g. in December this will cover the scheduled months of April to December, excluding FD UDA for English contracts and and including UDA for Welsh contracts.

Unique Patient Count (General): This is a count of the unique patient identities on forms scheduled (General Service Patients only). A patient may have attended more than once in the time period and received different treatment, so the total figure has been adjusted for duplicate patient IDs. Patient identities are counted for all valid FP17 transactions – including amendment, deletion and withdrawn records. Therefore, it is possible for the count of patient identities to be greater than the count of FP17s.
