Dear NHS Business Services Authority,
Please provide data for each of the years 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019 to include:
a) the total number of PCNs for NHS Prescriptions claimed with no valid exemption.
b) of the number in a) how many were successfully challenged or appealled.
c) of the number in a) how many were paid.
d) of the number in a) how many were unpaid.
e) the income generated from PCNs paid in each year.

When a prescription is received which has been signed as the patient being exempt from prescription charges a data matching exercise is instigated. If no valid exemption is found through this search / exercise for that patient an enquiry letter is issued to the patient which invites them to contact us to confirm the exemption, they have in place.
Q2 covers cases closed for Exemption Confirmed and Cancelled.
Q4 excludes cases with payment, exemption confirmed and cancelled.
