‘Please inform me of the total amount paid to claimants under the vaccine damage scheme for damage caused specifically by all covid vaccines. Please also inform me of the total number of claims relating to all covid vaccines. Lastly, please advise how many were paid due to death.’

Your request was received on 6 February 2024 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Response

All data as of 5 February 2024. All data relates to claims received by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) and those transferred from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on 1 November 2021. All figures provided relate to claims for the Covid-19 vaccine. 

Of the 163 claimants that have been notified they are entitled to a Vaccine Damage Payment, 154 claimants have received their payment so far. Therefore, £18,480,000 has been paid to claimants. The remaining claimants will receive their Vaccine Damage Payment once we receive relevant documents from them. For example, their bank details.

9,219 Covid-19 vaccine related claims have been received by the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS).

Of the 163 awarded claims, 59 are on behalf of someone who has died.
