Please could you tell me the number of dentists who were providing ONLY NHS dental care for their patients? To be clear, this is the number of dentists who carry out no (or little, less than 10%) private work for their patients.

This data is derived from CoMPASS for England & Wales for the financial year 2023.

We only hold data on contracts that have a percentage of Private/NHS delivery, not individual Dental Performers.

England: 3,456 delivered more than 90% NHS activity.

Wales: 260 delivered more than 90% NHS activity.

Note: In 2023 3,555 contracts in England and 268 in Wales requested business rates re-imbursement due to notified Private activity.

The total number of contracts paid by NHS Business Services Authority delivering activity:

England: 8,135

Wales: 535
