Thank you for your request for information about the following:

Please will you confirm the qualifications and experience of the medical assessors

Your request was received on 12 September 2023 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Response

Medical assessors for the England Infected Blood Support Scheme (EIBSS) are required to possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Basic medical qualification e.g., MB BS

• Postgraduate Membership/Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians of London/Edinburgh

• Specialist accreditation in either Gastroenterology or Infectious Diseases +/- General Internal Medicine;

• Extensive experience of assessing/managing patients with chronic hepatitis C and/or HIV; and

• Extensive evidence of undertaking research in the field of blood borne viruses.
