Hi - please find corresponding responses below:
Please count every time a new part-time post is started
Please use the financial years
Please add together TPP for respective years. Please measure the median against members.’
Your request was received on 6 July 2023, with clarification received on 26 July 2023 and 27 July 2023, and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Response
A copy of the information is attached. Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.
Members
Members are counted for every year they commenced a new part time post after being in receipt of benefits.
Scheme
Benefits may not have been claimed from the same Scheme – i.e. a member may have claimed 1995 Section benefits while still actively contributing on a later post in the 2015 Scheme. A break in active service may not be required if the previous service is decoupled.
Median Total Pensionable Pay (TPP)
The median TPP is based on the sum of Total Pensionable Pay for each member for the given financial year. It relies on the employment record being updated annually, or terminated, else there would be no data to assess. Members without an update for the year in question have been excluded from the respective median calculation.
Only members who started a new post in the year have been included in the calculation, otherwise all pre-existing members and pensioners would have been included which would skew the median.
Practitioner members
Practitioner members are typically updated a year behind officer members, which is likely why the median has dipped in 2023. Most high earning practitioners won’t have submitted any contribution information for the year ending 31 March 2023 yet.
Total Pensionable Pay (TPP)
TPP reflects the earnings which pension contributions have been paid on. It won’t be updated for the year, so if a member only worked for a month, the pensionable pay figure we hold for them will only reflect that month (i.e. their total pensionable pay may only be £100 for doing a week of part time work).
