FOI-01241

Thank you for your request for information about the following:

I'm looking for statistics regarding probationary periods for Band 2 and Band 3 roles within NHSBSA.

Question 1: Are you able to provide, as a statistic, the number of Band 2 and Band 3 employees whose contracts are terminated after a six months' probationary period on the grounds that their performance has not met the required standard.

Question 2: Are you also able to provide, as a statistic, the number of Type2 Processors, whose contracts are terminated after a six months' probationary period on the grounds that their performance has not met the required standard. If you are able to provide these statistics for the period commencing 01/10/2022 to today's date.

Your request was received on 17th June and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Response

Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.

Please be aware that I have decided not to release the practice details where the total number of staff members falls below 5. This is because they could be identified, when combined with other information that may be in the public domain or reasonably available.

This information falls under the exemption in section 40 subsections 2 and 3A (a) of the Freedom of Information Act.

This is because it would breach the first data protection principle as:

a) it is not fair to disclose individual’s personal details to the world and is likely to cause damage or distress.

b) these details are not of sufficient interest to the public to warrant an intrusion into the privacy of the individual’s.

Please click the below web link to see the exemption in full. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/36/section/40

Question 1: Less than 5 Band 2 and Band 3 employees whose contracts are terminated after a six months' probationary period on the grounds that their performance has not met the required standard.

Question 2: Less than 5 Type2 Processors, whose contracts are terminated after a six months' probationary period on the grounds that their performance has not met the required standard.
To compare with hires during the same period, we hired 477 colleagues on Band 2-3 during this time, of which 28 were Type 2 Processors.

Please note that the requested information covers those dismissed at 6 months only – the majority of those dismissed for performance issues in probation would have their probation extended before dismissal, which is why there are so few at this stage.
