Thank you for your request for information about the following:
Following FOI request FOI-01101 I am now requesting data on dentists recording as undertaking NHS work to local level. Please supply data for England, broken down to i) local authority level, ii) UK parliamentary constituency level, for all financial years 2010/11-2022/23.
Your request was received on 22 May 2023 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Response
A copy of the information is attached.
Please note that the data for 2022-23 financial year is incomplete, and only counts performers with activity scheduled up to May 2023. Dentists have 62 days in which to submit FP17s following completion of treatment, therefore the financial year cover from April to the following June e.g. for 2022-23, the period is from April 2022 to June 2023.
Differences in our data compared to NHS Digital annual publication:
a) The NHSE data provides details of performers associated with contracts who have zero or positive activity based on FP17s scheduled in the year.
b) FOI 01189 – This data excludes performers (dentists) who worked on not paid contracts (usually community dental services) and we excluded anyone with negative or zero FP17s, which may have differed from NHS Digital as theirs is based on dentists with UDA and or UOA. It is possible for forms to be submitted that do not receive UDAs/UOAs due to late submissions.
Guidance Notes
This report contains the details from FP17s processed for the period stated Reporting Years 2014/2015 to 2022/2023 (202204-202305) in English Local Authorities and Parliamentary Constituencies. All contracts paid by NHSBSA. The information within the report includes the data items and descriptions listed below. Only Performers who were active delivering UDA/UOA during the period.
Reporting Year
The financial year which the activity relate to. Year-end methodology will include all activity data (including amendments) collected from FP17s scheduled in any of the fifteen schedule months from April to June, where the date of completion is on or between 1 April and 31 March of the year. For example 2019-20 will include all activity data (including amendments) collected from FP17s scheduled in any of the fifteen schedule months from April 2019 to June 2020, where the date of completion is on or between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020. Where FP17s do not have a date of completion, e.g. where the patient has failed to return to complete the treatment, the date of acceptance is used.
Parliamentary Constituency
This is the Parliamentary Constituency the contract is located in.
Local Authority
This is the Local Authority the contract is located in.
Number of Performers
The number of Dentists as recorded on CoMPASS. Who have been active and submitted FP17(O)s.
Notes
The number of Dentists in the Local Authorities and Parliamentary Constituencies can exceed the total for the country as performers can work across different areas/contracts. We only hold data back to 2014/2015 due to data retention policy.
