Response

Question 1

As of 28 April 2023, a total of 62 applications have been independently assessed under the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme, in relation to VITT following an AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 (coronavirus).

It is not possible to conclusively state whether a claim relates to a specific condition until it has been reviewed by the independent medical assessor. Therefore, we do not hold full data on the total number of claims received relating to VITT following an AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Question 2

Of this number, 39 have been successful.

Question 3

a) No claims were unsuccessful due to the diagnosis not being VITT.

b) 16 were unsuccessful due to the claimant being assessed by the independent medical assessor as less than 60% disabled.

c) No claims were unsuccessful due to a combination of these factors.

d) 7 claims were unsuccessful because of causation due to the vaccine not being accepted by the independent medical assessor.
