I am looking to make a freedom of information request for the purpose of academic research. The information I seek relates to NHS dental activity data. Please find attached an Excel spreadsheet that lays out the information that I seek. Please also see this below as a list.

Time period

For each financial year since the introduction of UDAs i.e. FY 2006/7 until the most recently completed financial year of 2022/3

Geographical areas

For each lower tier local authority (i.e. the 317 single tier local authorities)

Data

In each local authority and in each financial year, I seek:

• the total number of UDAs commissioned

• the total number of UDAs delivered

• the total number of dentists that have delivered any NHS courses of primary care treatment

• for the number of dentists, to have this split out for sex, ie. male/female/other

Your request was received on 13 April 2023 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

This report contains the details from FP17s processed for the period stated 2014/2015 to 2022/2023 in English Local Authorities. The information within the report includes the data items and descriptions listed below.

Financial Year: The financial year associated with the 'Year Month' dimension in the format 'YYYY/YYYY' e.g. 2018/2019 for 201804.

Local Authority Name: This is the Local Authority the contract is located in.

UDA Performance Target: The contracted units of dental activity to be achieved for the year, as entered on CoMPASS by the PCO.

UDA Financial Value: The financial value associated with the UDA performance target for the financial year, as entered on CoMPASS by the PCO.

UDA Delivered: The units of dental activity scheduled for the financial year to date for the period selected, relating to the financial year e.g. in December this will cover the scheduled months of April to December, excluding FD UDA for English contracts and and including UDA for Welsh contracts.

Cost per UDA: This shows the cost per unit of dental activity at the contract. This is calculated by dividing the UDA Financial Value by the UDA Performance Target.

Cost of Delivery: UDA Delivered multiplied by the Cost Per UDA.

Number of Performers: The number of Dentists as recorded on CoMPASS. (Active submitting FP17s).

Note: Due to data retention we only hold records back to 2014/2015.
