Request
I would like to request data on the number of unique patients seen under a NHS dental contract by each English dental practice over a 3 year period split by the patient's home postcode Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) vigintile (5% bands).
So, the dataset would be a row for each dental practice with the columns containing a practice identifier, 20 counts of patients (a count for each of the 20 5% IMD bands), and the total number of unique patients seen. Unique patients should have at least one course of treatment completed at the practice and be identified using the usual approach by using surname, first initial, gender, and data of birth. The three year period should be between 01/04/2017 and 31/03/2020. The IMD should be based on the 2019 LSOA rank of the patient's most recently recorded address
Response
A copy of the information is attached.
This report contains the details of the number of Unique patients seen it the Reporting Years of 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 in English Contracts. The information within the report includes the data items and descriptions listed below.
Reporting Year
The financial year which the activity/contracted services relate to - to be used for year end reporting using the 'Contract Services Combined Fact' table.
Region Description
This is the name associated with the Region.
Commissioner Name
This is the name associated with the Commissioning Organisation.
Contract Number: This is a unique 10 character number which identifies a contract.
Unique Patient Count
This is a count of the unique patient identities on forms scheduled. A patient may have attended more than once in the time period and received different treatment, so the total figure has been adjusted for duplicate patient IDs. Patient identities are counted for all valid FP17 transactions – including amendment, deletion and withdrawn records. Therefore, it is possible for the count of patient identities to be greater than the count of FP17s.
Patient LSOA Code/Name
The LSOA code/name based on the postcode of the patient as entered on the FP17
Vigintile
Based on ONS LSOA Year 2019. Population data taken from the ONS website. Vigintile 1 is the Most deprived and vigintile 20 is the Least deprived.
Note
Due to Information Governance any LSOA with a Patient count of Five and below can only be identified with "*<=5”. This figure may be zero or negative if deleted FP17s have been processed.
