Dataset Lifecycle Statuses and Statistical Types
We’re introducing new Dataset Lifecycle Statuses and Statistical Types across our Open Data Portal. These tags will appear under each publication title, as small labels, to help users quickly identify the status and statistical classification of each dataset.

Dataset Lifecycle Statuses
These new statuses are designed to help data users quickly assess the timeliness and reliability of datasets, enhancing transparency and enabling more informed decisions.
Live – Fully published datasets that are actively maintained and regularly updated to reflect the latest available information.Ad-hoc – Datasets published as a single release or on an irregular basis. These datasets are not routinely maintained or updated.
Beta – Datasets published in an early or experimental form. The structure, methodology, or content may change as feedback is gathered and improvements are made.
User feedback may be requested to support further development.
Under Review – Datasets currently undergoing review to assess accuracy, completeness, or ongoing suitability for publication.
Users should check for related notices or updates before using the data.
Planned Retirement – Datasets that have been announced for future retirement. Updates will stop after a specified point and users should plan accordingly.
Retired – Datasets that are no longer maintained or updated. They remain available for historical reference and audit purposes.
Statistical Types
Statistical types describe how the data has been produced and the standards it follows. They help users understand the statistical classification of a dataset and how it should be interpreted.
Accredited Official Statistics – Official statistics that have been independently assessed by the Office for Statistics Regulation and confirmed as compliant with the highest standards of trustworthiness, quality, and value.
Official Statistics – Data produced in line with the Code of Practice for Statistics.
Official Statistics in Development – Statistics that are still undergoing development or improvement. They are published to involve users in shaping their design before full accreditation.
Management Information – Data collected primarily for operational or administrative purposes. While not produced as official statistics, it can still provide useful insight into services or activities.
