The NHSBSA data services team are using the open data portal to publish data from English prescriptions that were dispensed in Scotland during the period of May 2023 to April 2024.
The release is scheduled to go live by the end of Quarter 2 2024/25.
NHS prescriptions which have been written by a prescriber in England may eventually be dispensed in a pharmacy setting outside of England in the devolved nations of Scotland, Wales and the Islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Jersey and Isle of Man. The information collected by these countries is shared with the NHSBSA so that English prescribing may be reported.
From May 2023 to April 2024, there was a technical issue with English prescribed prescription data dispensed in Scotland. The data could not be retrospectively uploaded into the English prescribing data or ePACT2, our reporting system for prescriptions, where the information is usually held.
This is a one-off publication as prescription data from May 2024 and onwards will begin to be available within the English prescribing data and ePACT2. This ad hoc release will enable stakeholders who use English Prescribing Dataset (EPD) and those with access to the ePACT2 the opportunity to join their dataset information that was not available previously, providing a completed view.
