‘Please could you supply a list of all roles advertised on NHS Jobs which include the keywords: nurse, nursing, and nurses, between January 2019 and May 2025 [or the most recent complete month if not May 2025]. If you cannot provide data back to Jan 2019, please provide data as far back as possible.

Please can you ensure the data includes information that captures the following fields. If you cannot provide them all, please still extract the data but highlight which fields you were not able to provide in your extraction:

a. Job title

b. Staff group [e.g. ‘Allied Health Professionals’, ‘Nursing & Midwifery Registered’]

c. Area of work [e.g. ‘Mental Health’, ‘Surgery’]

d. Eligibility [if this exists] [which would allow one to select e.g. ‘newly qualified nurse’, ‘near qualified nurse’] to see all jobs that fit these eligibility criteria

e. Salary

f. Pay band / scale

g. Published date / date posted

h. Advert closed date / closing date

i. Job type [i.e. ‘Permanent’, ‘Bank’, etc]

j. Working pattern [i.e. ‘Part-time’, ‘Full-time’ etc]

k. Fixed term contract length

l. Organisation name / Employer name

p. Region [i.e. NHS region such as ‘London’, ‘North West’]

q. Why the role is being advertised [i.e. ‘replacing someone who’s leaving’, ‘this is a new job’ etc]

s. Person specification [i.e. ‘Qualifications’, ‘Experience’ etc]

t. Job description

With these data, we want to be able to identify the number of jobs being advertised where newly qualified nurses or nearly qualified nurses are eligible to apply. Such that we can see how many roles [and we can work out the proportion of these jobs against all available jobs for nursing staff] were advertised in successive periods. If there are any other fields not listed above, which you think would help us determine this, please can you include this in the data.’

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested, and a copy of the information is attached.

The data has been filtered on the following criteria:

Job Title

Contains keywords ‘Nurse’, ‘Nurses’, ‘Nursing’ (Note this does include ‘Nursery’ for completeness).

Staff Group

Covers all staff groups with keywords in Job Title.

Date Range

Data is provided for 18 July 2019 to 31 May 2025.
