The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) received your request on Monday 2 June 2025.

We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Our response

I can confirm that the NHSBSA holds the information you have requested and a copy of the information is attached.

Please read the below notes to ensure correct understanding of the data.

Employer Type, such as GP Practice, is only held so long as the employer is still active. In the event an employer closes, the type is updated to OLD, which means it cannot then be identified as a GP Practice. For the purpose of this FOI, it will only impact those GP Practices that have closed since 31 May 2025.

Practitioners are defined as any member with practitioner service; even if they may have concurrent officer service, the practitioner service takes priority. In the unlikely event that a practitioner has active officer service with a GP Practice, they will be excluded from the results.

A record being ‘non-updated’ is based on a member having an employment commence prior to 31 March 2025 but not having been updated to 31 March 2025. Some members highlighted in question 1 may have commenced after 1 April 2025 and therefore not be due an annual update. These members are out of scope for questions 3 and 4.

Volumes given are based on unique count of members; some may have multiple posts with the same Employing Authority (EA) or a different EA, which may or not be a GP Practice.

We cannot identify which employments we have been unable to update, leading to the form entering error handling. Provided is the volume of non-updated GP Practice posts for members who also have an employer owned error for the same EA code. However, the employer owned error may not relate to the post or year in question.

The table shows the breakdown of all employers owned errors for GP Practices which includes for non-active members. The year the error relates to cannot be identified. This data is correct as at 3 June 2025.
