Request

This request relates to Palforzia (peanut oral immunotherapy) as recommended in NICE Technology Appraisal TA769 for children and young people with peanut allergy.

Please provide the following information for England:

1. For each financial year from 2022/23 to the most recent year for which data are available (and, if possible, broken down by month or quarter):

o The total number of NHS-funded Palforzia items / administrations recorded in your datasets; and

o The corresponding total net ingredient cost or equivalent spend figure.

2. For the same period, please provide a breakdown of Palforzia usage by commissioning organisation, showing for each Integrated Care Board (ICB):

o The number of Palforzia items / administrations attributable to that ICB; and

o The associated total spend.

3. If available within the appropriate cost limits, please also provide a breakdown of Palforzia usage by provider organisation (e.g. NHS Trust or other provider), again showing:

o Number of items / administrations; and o Associated total spend.

If Palforzia is recorded under a specific BNF code, ATC code, or drug ID in your high-cost drugs / hospital medicines datasets, please feel free to use that internal coding in order to extract the data most efficiently.

Response

I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHSBSA.

We have reviewed the datasets we hold and can confirm that we do not have any prescribing or spend data for Palforzia. This product is classified as a hospital-only medicine and does not appear in our primary care prescribing datasets, such as the Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) data or the English Prescribing Dataset (EPD). These datasets only cover prescriptions dispensed in the community in England.

While Palforzia is listed in the Dictionary of Medicines and Devices (dm+d) and associated SNOMED codes exist, there is no BNF code associated with it, and we have found no evidence of prescribing activity in primary care.

If you require data on hospital prescribing or high-cost medicines, this information is managed by NHS England. You may wish to contact them directly, as they oversee the Secondary Care Medicines Data (SCMD) and other relevant hospital prescribing datasets.

For reference, our published PCA statistics can be accessed here: https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/prescription-data/prescription-cost-analysis-pca-data However, as noted, Palforzia does not appear in these datasets.
