Request
Hello, could I please request information on the number of GP CPCS referrals by month. Could this be in a spreadsheet format, with columns of "month", "ODS code of prescribing organisation", "ODS code of dispensing organisation" and "count". If this is possible, then could the data please be provided as far back as the data exists. Thank you.
Response
A copy of the information is attached.
NHS Prescription Services process prescriptions for Pharmacy Contractors, Appliance Contractors, Dispensing Doctors and Personal Administration with information then used to make payments to pharmacists and appliance contractors in England for prescriptions dispensed in primary care settings (other arrangements are in place for making payments to Dispensing Doctors and Personal Administration). This involves processing over 1 billion prescription items and payments totalling over £9 billion each year. The information gathered from this process is then used to provide information on costs and trends in prescribing in England and Wales to over 25,000 registered NHS and Department of Health and Social Care users.
Data Source - The NHSBSA Information Services Data Warehouse.
Time Period - No limit is placed on time period.
CPCS referrals by month - The number of referrals is given regardless of the success of the referral.
Organisation Data - Column header disp_code provides the dispenser code. We do not hold the Prescriber code but do hold the GP name, address, and Post Code, which have been provided
Request_Count - The number of requests in month, not the number of unique patients.
